The cacao tree is native to tropical regions in Central and South America, and its fruit has been consumed by pre-Columbian cultures such as the Mayans for over 4,000 years. Cacao is considered a superfood as it contains more antioxidants than blueberries, as well as a good amount of iron, calcium, and magnesium.

Cacao powder is a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals (such as magnesium, potassium, selenium, zinc, copper, and iron), and fiber. It is also sugar-free, low calorie, and low fat.

Cacao contains theobromine, which stimulates a slow release of energy and may assist in promoting cardiovascular health. It also contains anandamide, a neurotransmitter that can elevate mood. Phenylethylamine, a chemical found in the brain when people are in love, is also present in cacao nibs.

We offer "San Martin" cacao, which is a mixture of native varieties and Criollo with a little bit of Trinitario. The beans come mostly from the Sisa, Saposoa, and Huicungo areas.

Cacao powder is made by cold-pressing raw cacao beans.
